With both the English and Scottish number one players competing, the 12-year-old was not expected to win this event but she hit top form to ease through to the semi-finals by winning every game 3-0.

Year 7 pupil Katie, who lives in Wendover, then surprised Scottish number one Orla Young 3-1 to reach the final, where she came up against the number one seed Torrie Malik.

But despite her opponents’ ranking, Katie again proved too good as after being pegged back to 1-1, she took the next two games to clinch the title.

The win means Katie, who trains at two clubs in Wendover and Aylesbury, is now Britain’s new number one squash player for her age group.

Having also recently become Buckinghamshire U17 champion, her next aim is to play in the American Open and represent her country while the ultimate ambition is to one year compete in the Olympics.
