A medal haul for Dacorum & Tring’s junior athletes

Dacorum & Tring AC’s middle distance squad dominated at the 2014 Dacorum district schools cross country championships at Gadebridge Park, winning six of the eight races and taking 12 of the 24 medal places.

Rhys Rowlands (Longdean) and Matt Renphrey (Longdean) finished first and second in the Year 10 boys’ race, while Izzy Amos (Hemel Hempstead) and Grace Birdseye (Hemel Hempstead) did the same in the Year 10 girls’ race – with Summer Clarke (Kings Langley) in fifth.

Ellen Northwood (Ashlyns) won the Year 9 girls’ race, with Isabelle Aylwin (Tring School) in third, while Levi Spriggs (Tring) was fifth for the Year 9 boys.

The Year 8 girls swept the medals, with Indira Patel (Hemel Hempstead) and Maddie Perry (Ashlyns) joint first for the Year 8 girls and Libby Mallard (Kings Langley) in third.

Kristian Imroth (JFK) was the clear winner in the Year 8 boys’ race, while Nico Dowsett (JFK) sprinted fiercely at the end to take second.

Adam Jolly (Hemel Hempstead) won the Year 7 boys’ event, with Freddie Truman-Williams (Ashlyns) in fifth and Elliot Kitchenere (Hemel Hempstead) in 14th.

Mike Dunphy, Dacorum & Tring’s middle distance coach, said that the superb results “confirm our training programme is working. Our aim is to establish Dacorum & Tring AC as the top distance running club in Hertfordshire for young athletes.”
