The future looks bright for TringRugby after application is approved

The announcement comes after many months of hard work from club representatives and makes Tring only the second club in the UK to have been awarded such an honour.

The stated objective of TCRT is ‘to promote community participation in healthy recreation for the public benefit in Tring, Berkhamsted and the surrounding communities by providing facilities and coaching for the playing of amateur rugby.’

TringRugby chairman John Hopson was understandably thrilled by the news, and said: “After nine months, the application process to become a charity is finished and we at TringRugby are delighted .

“With a Rugby World Cup year, a thriving mini and junior section, four senior teams and an academy, we are going from strength to strength.

“With plans to redevelop our clubhouse over the coming years, we will continue to offer rugby to all comers; old and new players alike. The future is bright at TringRugby.”

This is another big step forward for TringRugby, in line with the strategic plan the club set out four years ago. The constitutional change follows the acquisition of the club’s land and their 50th anniversary celebrations last year.

TringRugby is one of the first rugby clubs in England to obtain CIO status – which became available to charities in England and Wales in 2013.

TCRT chairman Peter Borg-Neal is delighted with the news, but knows there is plenty of hard work to come.

“Whilst we have good reason to pause and celebrate just now, we should be clear that the formation of TCRT certainly does not represent the culmination of our ambitions,” he said.

“The achievements of the last few years will be seen, in due course, as the foundation stones necessary to deliver our long-term plans.”

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Deric Newman, John Hopson and Mark Firth for their heroic efforts in bringing this to fruition.

“They and their colleagues on the management board are doing a tremendous job and we should all be very grateful for their efforts and for those of all the volunteers who do so much for this wonderful rugby club.”
