On-form Berkhamsted sides maintain their impressive start to the campaign

It was another highly satisfactory weekend for Berkhamsted & Hemel Hempstead Hockey Club as they bagged five wins, two draws and just one defeat from their eight league games.

The men’s second team provided the performance of the day in their 5-0 thumping of Harpenden.

After a frustrating first half where the team failed to capitalise on their possession, a strong half-time team talk resulted in a dominating display after the break.

The men’s fifth team continued their fine start to the season with their second win in three league games, beating Shefford and Sandy 4-1 to earn their biggest victory in three seasons.

The men’s third XI provided another outstanding win and remain unbeaten this season. In a tough encounter against Rickmansworth they won 2-1 with goals from Ed Goodwyn and Mark Robinson.

Elsewhere, the men’s firsts came back from 3-0 down to Harpenden at half-time to draw 3-3 and maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

The fourth XI completed the unbeaten weekend for the men with a 1-1 draw against Rickmansworth. Man of the match was Mark Johnson who made some important saves to ensure the point for his team.

In the ladies’ section, the third team had a convincing 5-0 win against Leighton Buzzard as player of the match Ruby Lloyd netted a brace.

Thee ladies’ second team game was conceded by Shefford & Sandy, giving Berko another three points and joint-top spot in the league after the first three games of the season.

The ladies’ firsts suffered the only loss of the weekend with a 2-0 defeat against a strong Blueharts side.
