Wasteful Hemel Rovers leave it late to grind out a win against Kings Sports

In a game that is usually very close, the scoreline perhaps didn’t tell the full story as Rovers were on top for large periods of the game without getting the ball into the net.

Although having most of the early play, woeful finishing and some excellent saves by Kings keeper Glen Dimmock prevented Rovers from opening up a commanding lead.

Time and time again chances went begging, and when Rovers did get things right, on-form Dimmock kept his team in the game with some top class goalkeeping.

However, midway through the first period, a half chance fell to Rovers front-man Mylie Cash who slotted in from close range to give his side the lead.

Shortly after the goal, a rare Kings attack saw a scrambled equaliser and the sides went in all square at the break.

Although Rovers had the better of the second half, they again struggled to force a breakthrough and it was left to Jamal Babb to grab the winner with 15 minutes left to play.

Elsewhere, Hemel Rovers Reserves demolished Glenn Sports 6-0 with a ruthless display in front of goal.

Micky Hoare bagged a brace, while goals from Ray Wood, Kai Lewis, Harry Walters and a special from Michael Tearle completed the rout.

The A team completed a good day for the club when beating Oxhey Jets A 2-1. A penalty by Matt Durrant and a further strike from Matt Lennon earned the points.
