He said: “We’re still looking to recruit two or three more before the season.

“It’s important to evolve. We want success. Last season was a failure in my eyes. We had an opportunity to get into the play offs and we didn’t make it.

“We have come up short in the past two seasons so we have to make changes and keep recruiting.”

Last season was plagued by injuries and efforts have been made to have a younger squad. The average age is now 23 compared to 27 last time around.

The Tudors will also be looking to improve their defensive performance as they recorded fewer clean sheets last season than they did in their first time in National League South in 2014/15.

The Tudors are now back in pre-season training and Brennan said: “The season starts in five weeks time and there’s a lot of positiives for us right now.

“The first week of pre-season was mainly about fitness. We’ve now moved on to fitness and some coaching, and it will then be more coaching.

“Pre-season is the most important time in any football club, to get the fitness right.”

Hemel’s pre-season fixtures began on Tuesday with a game at Southern League Division One Central side Bedford Town, which ended 1-1. Next up is a clash at newly-promoted Southern League Premier outfit Kings Langley on Saturday.

“We want to win these games, because winning becomes a habit,” said Brennan.

“But it’s also of course about getting the match fitness into the players.

“They’ll each be getting 45 minutes, then we’ll build it to 60 minutes before a full 90 minutes. We have nine pre-season games so all the players will have four full 90 minutes.

“We also want to get a sense of the club’s philosophy in place.”

The pre-season continues with matches at Hendon next Tuesday, July 12 and Arlesey Town on Thursday, July 14. The first home fixture is against former league side Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday, July 16.

The National League fixture schedule is due out today.
