Tudors to face Chippenham after defeating Dunstable

The Tudors cruised into the third qualification round of the FA Cup, seeing off Dunstable Town with a goal either side of the interval on Saturday.

They now face a trip on October 11 to Southern League Premier Division side Chippenham Town in third round qualfying.

Chippenham have endurec a mixed season to date. They are mid-table in the division won by Hemel last season.

They progressed to this stage of the Cup with a 1-0 win over Ardley United at the weekend, while Hemel were dispensing with Dunstable.

It was a scrappy match, taking almost 40 minutes for any real goal mouth action, but when it did come about it resulted in a goal for the home side.

James Potton found himself with space on the right and his inch perfect cross was headed home emphatically by Ben Mackey, grabbing his first goal of the campaign.

The goal kick started the game as Dunstable went instantly back on the attack and found the net, only for their celebrations to be cut short by the offside flag.

The creator of the first then became the finisher of the second, Potton rifling home from close range to double the advantage.

The goal immediately summoned another flurry of Hemel pressure as they searched for a third, but Toomey and Hawkins were both denied by the Dunstable stopper.

James Simmonds was next to be denied, as his seemingly goal-bound effort was headed clear by the leaping ex Tudor, Dunstable captain, Shane Blackett.

The visitors were reduced to long shots in a game where chances were few and far between, but the Tudors just had enough to gain their first home win of the campaign and book their place in the next round. Hemel now can focus solely on the league until the FA Cup returns in a fortnight’s time.

On Saturday, Hemel travel to Gosport Borough in Vanarama South.
