'˜Truro deserved to win' says Tudors boss Brennan after midweek defeat

And the Tudors boss says that his team – who had one eye on reaching the playoffs a couple of weeks ago – must now concentrate on getting enough points to maintain their National League South status.

“I thought Truro were better than us and they scored three fantastic goals so I thought they deserved to win,” said Brennan.

“But when I looked at the opportunities and chances count, we had more clear opportunities.

“I can’t knock the players because none of them shirked their responsibilities in terms of their commitment and their work-rate, we were just beaten by the better team on the night.”

Hemel fielded a much-changed starting XI due to their ongoing injury crisis, and Brennan felt that this was a big factor in deciding the outcome of the match on Tuesday night.

“We had four debutantes in the team and we had one or two other lads who were only playing their second game for us, so the team is inconsistent,” he continued.

“I’ve said all season that the quicker we can get the team selected week-in, week-out, the better the results will be. It’s a massive learning curve for everyone at the football club.

“What I would say is that this is our best year in management because of the injury list and the players we’ve sold. Take Suarez and Messi out of Barcelona’s team and they are not the same team – it’s the same at this level too.

“Against Truro we had none of our recognised back four available, and Matty Spring was also out – you just can’t have that.

“If I’m honest, the main thing for us is that we stay in the division first and foremost, so we need to get at least 50 points. Then we will start looking to next season.”
