Tring started quite brightly against well organised Welwyn side, however as the first half unfolded, City started to assert themselves and created a number of good chances which they failed to covert.

The young Tring side continued to look effective on the break and presented their own threat on occasion.

The deadlock was broken on 30 minutes when Sam Joliffe picked up the ball in the middle and fed it out to Lee Stobbs wide on the right. Stobbs raced to the bye-line and hit a low ball at pace across the box, which Ryan Sturges dispatched for 1-0.

Welwyn continued to press and, on 40 minutes, Yasin Boodhoo found himself unmarked in the box and headed home an equaliser for Welwyn.

It looked like it would be honours even at the break until the referee awarded a free-kick 25 yards. Two Welwyn players joined the end of the wall and, as the free-kick was taken hard and low, they jumped over the ball which nestled in the net.

The second half was a dour affair with few chances created by either side. Tring did their best to press for an equaliser but just couldn’t seem to find the final pass.
