Super Mario saves the day for The Midland

There was plenty of drama in the second round of the BSFL Sunday Junior Cup as The Midland beat AFC Saints 7-6 on penalties following a 12-goal thriller.

With the scores locked at 5-5 after 90 minutes and 6-6 after extra-time, The Midland keeper Mario Cordara saved Saints’ seventh penalty to send his side through and knock out last year’s finalists.

It was a day to remember for Brad Willoughby as he scored a hat-trick – including two penalties – before also netting from the spot in the shootout.

Stuart Dickinson, James Willoughby and Tom Klymkiw were also on target for The Midland during the game, while hot-shot Bradley Turner notched four goals for the Saints.

Another team to book their place in the third round of the competition were Boxmoor, who thumped Victoria United 7-0 courtesy of strikes from hit-man Shaun Williams (3), Rhys Cassidy, Jamie Lewis, Christian Hough and Adam King.

Elsewhere, Comets Sports Club were knocked out of the Herts FA Sunday Senior Cup by Dun Cow, in a 3-2 reverse while Greenacres Tavern crashed to a 4-2 defeat at Cassiobury Rangers in the Herts FA Sunday Intermediate Cup.

Ollys Athletic had a better day as they progressed to the fourth round of the BSFL Steve Norwood Challenge Cup at the expense of Landrovers. It took extra-time for Athletic to get the job done, eventually emerging 6-4 victors with goals from Kenny Harrington (2), Marcus Tower (2), Sean Lane and Ross Paterson.

Back in league action, Everett Rovers took the spoils in an 11-goal spectacular in the BSFL Premier Division as Reece Cameron (2), Dan Tearle, Aaron Peach and Stuart Howe fired their team to a 6-5 win at Berko Tornadoes.

AFC Doves were also on form in front of goal, beating Leverstock Green Corinthians 5-2 with goals from Ryan Charles (2), Stefan Owen-Edwards, Myley Cash and John Smith.

In BSFL Division One, FC Jubilee had Scott Carrington (2) and Luke Hughes to thank for their 3-2 win over FC Intervino, while Potten End Sunday and Greenacres II shared a 1-1 draw.

The Queens Head were the biggest winners in BSFL Division Two as hat-trick hero ASA Foster, Ben Osborn and Andrew Hardy netted in a 5-2 triumph over Old Bell Athletic.

Goal-hungry Lewis Wornham (4) and Alex Kinsley were the marksmen for Hemel Tudors in a 5-3 win against Berko Athletic Reserves, while Sporting Oddfellows and Berko Tornadoes Reserves drew 2-2.

BSFL Division Three saw Berko Tornadoes A sink Leather Bottle 4-3 through goals from Lee Attard, Charlie Rance, Michael Dance and Dave Hanley, while Greenacres II Reserves shared eight goals with GB Precision.
