The game was competitive throughout, with each side picking up three yellow cards. Berko made four changes from the side that lost to Leverstock Green with Dale Sears, Jermaine Mitchell, Josh Chamberlain and Jay Caines all fit enough to start.

Sun took the lead in the 17th minute through their skipper Scott Bonner, who swept home on the volley when a free-kick was delivered in anticipation of his run.

While Sun deserved their first half lead with some speedy attacks, they were outplayed by the Comrades in the second period.

Bradley O’Donovan, the centre-forward Berko signed from Haringey Borough to replace BJ Christie, got both goals for the Comrades and might have had a hat-trick had the offside flag not gone up when he netted after a neat one-two with Caines.

The equaliser came when O’Donovan bundled home after meeting a probing free-kick from Chamberlain.

In the 75th minute he knocked the ball past a defender and smacked a firm shot inside the far post at the canal end to beat Ross Hampton for the winner.

Berko were comfortable enough to claim the points in the end and were able to give three substitutes game time in a much improved all-round performance.

Berko: Tasker; Edwards, Rodrigoe, Baldry, Canham, Sears, Hawes (Carbery), Mitchell, O’Donovan (Foster), Chamberlain (Nash-Barker). Subs not used: Ward & Mead.

On Saturday Berko are at home to Hanworth Villa in the Extra Preliminary Round of the Emirates FA Cup.

Berko’s injury list is easing and Adiel Mannion, Jude Eboji, Max Farrelly and Frankie Jowle could all be back in contention for places.
