No final flourish as Kings Langley lose out to Sun Sports in the cup semis

Kings were without Callum Adebiyi, Dean Hitchcock, Ryan Plowright, Steve Ward and Mitchell Weiss, and drafted in Zak Howells, Oran Swales, Matt Bateman and Ollie Cox, but the overall team performance on the night was a disappointing one.

Sun gained confidence as the game wore on, were the better side in the second half, and thoroughly deserved their win which took them through to the final against Tring Athletic.

The home side served notice of intent when Xavi Comas was forced into two superb saves in the first 10 minutes; the first at full stretch to an Alex Ward shot and the second with his feet from Louis Bircham.

Kings settled and produced the kind of crowd-pleasing approach work that has been their hallmark this season, but for all the superior amount of possession, an end result was not forthcoming and there were few chances before the break.

Within five minutes of the restart, Sun hit Kings with a sucker punch of stunning simplicity as Scott Bonner, one of six ex-Langley players in the starting line-up, rose to thump home a towering header from a Louis Bircham corner.

Kings spurned a couple of chances to take the game to extra-time, but in truth, it was Sun – inspired by the hard running Brima Johnson – who looked the more likely to find the net as the match edged to a close.
