More frustration for Berkhamsted

For the fourth time already this month Berkhamsted’s first team suffered a postponement, with London Tigers’ ground waterlogged.

The premier division match has now been rearranged for Tuesday, April 14.

Berko’s reserves did play, and scored four goals in the second half and kept a clean sheet to beat Camberley Town 4-0.

This saw them stretch their lead at the top of the Suburban North division to eight points.

Berko had two goals disallowed at the Railway End for offside, so it was goalless at half time.

In the second half, a back heel from Mitchell Cole put the Comrades in front at the canal end and a brace from 19-year-old Rhys Cassidy (son of former Berko Town and Watford player Francis) took it to 3-0.

The final goal was a shot from Tom Shaw that took a deflection and was probably already over the line by the time Cole reached it.

Berko’s first team hope to play two cup matches and a league game in a busy eight-day spell if the weather is good.

Last night they were hoping to reach the final of the Hertfordshire Charity Shield when they took on fellow premier division side London Colney at Broadwater.

On Saturday, Berko go looking for league points at Colney Heath, and then next Tuesday (February 3), Berko are at home to Sun Sports in the quarter final of the Premier Division Cup.

The cup theme continues on Saturday for Berko’s reserves, who hope to reach the semi final of the Herts Intermediate Cup but have a difficult trip to Boreham Wood in the quarter final. That means Broadwater gets a rare Saturday off.

The weekend action at Broadwater is a third round tie in the FA Women’s Cup on Sunday (February 1) at 2pm for Watford Ladies against Brighton, who lead the Southern Division of the FA Women’s Premier League.

The Golden Girls will be looking to make it through to the last 16.
