Leverstock thwarted by waterlogged pitch

Leverstock Green were left frustrated on Saturday as their scheduled Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division clash against AFC Dunstable was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Green are still 17th in the league table and will be chasing a much-needed win on Saturday when they travel to eighth-placed St Margetsbury.

The busy festive period then sees Green entertain Kings Langley on December 27, and go to Ampthill on January 3.

With the first team out of action, the spotlight instead fell on Green’s reserves, but they suffered a 2-1 defeat at Northwood Reserves in the Suburban League North Division.

And it was a heartbreaking loss for Green, as the winner was scored seven minutes into time added on!

Green started the match well and created the better chances in the opening half.

They deservedly took the lead on 39 minutes when a slip from a defender allowed Luis Almeida to play the ball through to Lewis Craze, who went round the keeper and slotted home.

The second half saw the home side start to put the pressure on. Green keeper Jordan I’Anson made a great save from Alex Delasalle on 65 minutes to preserve his side’s lead, however on 71 minutes Leverstock shot themselves in the foot by giving the ball away in their own half. Tobias Schweizer and scored.

In the dying minutes, goalkeeper I’Anson was sent off for handball outside the area. Player manager Dwaine Bryan took over in goal, and was powerless to stop Michael Elderfield drilling home late, late winner. It was a first defeat in 10 for Leverstock.
