Leverstock Green undone by quick-fire Town double

Two quick-fire second half goals sent Leverstock Green to a 2-0 defeat at Hoddesdon Town on Saturday.

In truth there wasn’t much to choose between the sides, but two goals in a minute were enough for Town to clinch the points.

The first half saw few chances for either side. Hoddesdon broke in the 13th minute when a ball over the top from Ike Nzuruba released Marvin Malebiosu, but he ran on to shoot wide.

The start of the second half saw Leverstock’s best spell of the game as they pressed the home side into their own half and got some good balls into the box, but still couldn’t force a save out of keeper Richard Robins.

Green’s best move of the match came in the 62nd minute when they broke from a Hoddesdon corner, but Sledge Mubama’s cross was headed off target by Nathan Jellow.

Leverstock defended well for the most part, but two quick-fire goals saw their hard work go to waste. In the 64th minute a cross from the left was met by Kambo Smith, whose glancing header went in off the far post.

The second goal was another header as Kevin Makayabo came in at the near post unchallenged to head home a free-kick and wrap up the points.
