Leisure Leagues round-up: Including victory for Kegs in a real goal-fest

Match of the week was an entertaining tie between Exeter Gently and Kegs Down FC – who were first to get on the scoreboard, despite the absence of player/manager Liam James.

Exeter’s loan signing Adam Hill scored with a superb chest and volley effort early on although they still found themselves trailing 5-4 at the half-time whistle.

Hill’s team-mate and fellow striker Rob Woods missed a penalty after the break but was able to redeem himself later with a tally of four goals by the end of the match.

However, it was Charlie Martindale of Kegs Down FC who stole the show with five goals to his name on the night, enabling his team to celebrate a defiant 13-7 victory.

Hemel Elite looked to overturn their defeat in last week’s game as they faced Slytherin FC.

By half-time this was not looking likely for Chris Wyatt’s Elite who found themselves 7-2 behind.

Things didn’t improve too much after the break as Elite striker Steve Bull missed a spot kick, while his counterpart for Slytherin, Darren Hewitt, fired home a hat-trick and contributed to the team’s 14-5 win.

Chicken Kiev also looked to gain their first points on the board as they took on improving Championship outfit Have You Got It.

The match was closely fought, particularly in the midfield where Kiev’s Chris Reeve had his work cut out against his experienced counterpart Russell Heygate.

Have You Got It player/manager Asa Foster was impressive as usual and he really buoyed his team’s overall performance, particularly with their sixth goal, which he converted from 20 yards out.

Kiev will be determined to overcome the 7-4 defeat next week.

ATBL looked comfortable and always in control in their match with Smack My Pitch Up.

Charlie Bull’s lads had already established a 5-1 lead by half-time, when Bull himself then made an appearance and added an extra dimension to the team’s attacking play, rightly claiming the man of the match award.

Following an inevitable loss, 6-3, Smack My Pitch’s Ayden Peacock will look to strengthen his side ahead of their tough tie next week with Slytherin FC.

In the Premiership, table toppers Fury Girls FC - managed by Adam Daniel - looked to maintain their 100 per cent record as they played Smack My Pitch Up.

They got off to the start they were hoping for as man of the match Vernon Dudley turned his opposing defenders inside out before firing home a top right hand corner strike.

Fury Girls went on to celebrate a convincing 13-7 victory.

Martin Gorman’s Up Yours FC also had their sights on a second straight win as they took on Ross Dutton’s The Oysterfarions.

While The Oysterfarions have shown fantastic signs of improvement in recent weeks, they were not as cohesive defensively as they would have liked and this was capitalised on by their opponents.

Adam Gorman of Up Yours FC was aptly awarded the man of the match accolade for a tremendous shot which he fired into the bottom corner of the net.

Premiership title contenders AFC Lech Albans appeared to be on good form as they battled in a close game with Fury Girls.

Albans player/manager Kitt Hulse developed play in midfield and provided several sublime through-balls to team-mates.

Fury’s Louis Hobbs gained the man of the match award for his outstanding efforts on the night which contributed to his team’s narrow 7-6 victory.
