Kings Langley Ladies hit Panshanger for six to climb up the table

Starting under-strength, Langley battled hard with early efforts from Danielle McMullan and Rachael Lee going just wide.

On 27 minutes Langley took the lead after Mary Hogan’s pass played in Kim Nield to fire past the keeper.

Just before half-time the visitors equalised and then had to make a desperate effort to clear and save off their line from a series of Langley attacks.

The second half saw the turning point of the game when Kings’ Nicole Barrett saw red after she had been chopped down when running down the left, with the perpetrator of the foul also being sent off.

From the resulting free-kick for Langley by Hogan, Lee raced in to score and put her side back in front.

Panshanger levelled again just before the hour, and hit the post too, but from there on in Langley rolled their sleeves up and moved up the gears.

Hogan’s goalbound header was handled on the line on 63 minutes, seeing Panshanger reduced to nine players, and Nield stepped up to score from the spot.

The lead was increased on 67 minutes when Phoebe Henderson-Barne’s hooked shot went in at the far post, with the keeper a mere spectator.

With the last quarter of an hour looming, Abbie Tarsey’s monster goal-kick caused panic among the visiting defence; the bounce evading them but not the rampaging Nield who darted in to complete her hat-trick.

There was still time for another goal for Langley as a move involving Henderson-Barnes and Lee set up Nield for her fourth goal of the day.

Right on the full-time whistle Nield played in Lee, who was thwarted by a last ditch effort by the keeper.

Langley are away on Sunday to Houghton Athletic FC. Kick-off is 2pm.
