Goalkeeper Connor Sansom was the saviour for Hertfordshire FA’s U18 representative side as they made it two wins out of two with victory over Bedfordshire.

Sansom saved a penalty with 20 minutes of the tense clash remaining to ensure Herts bagged the three points after JJ Brown’s strike broke the deadlock eight minutes into the second half.

Herts manager Ryan Brooke’s starlets had gone into the East Anglian Counties Competition fixture on a high after their recent FA County Youth Cup victory over Dorset.

But they travelled to a Bedfordshire side who were equally confident after winning their opening two games of the season.

After a blank first half, Brown put Hertfordshire ahead with his second goal in as many games, bundling the ball into the net after Bedfordshire keeper Aaron Fulton had saved his initial shot.

Bedfordshire laid siege to the Hertfordshire goal after Sansom’s penalty heroics but could not find a way past a resolute defence and Herts held on for the win.

In other action involving Hertfordshire FA’s representative teams, the women’s side saw off Cambridgeshire 2-1 in the Fred Wellham Cup, while the U16s were beaten 3-1 by Suffolk in The Boardman Trophy at Walsham-Le-Willows.
