As usual, Corries started slowly and were second best against a Grendon side belying their lowly league position.

They did take the lead on 15 minutes, however, as Andy Wheeler-King fed Andy Humphreys who turned his man and fired a shot that cannoned off the post into Mark Burfoot’s path to make it 1-0.

The lead didn’t last long, though, as Rangers created three or four chances due to sloppy defending before Smethers upended his man in the box and Grendon equalised from the spot.

Tring were being bossed in midfield and looked sloppy at the back but things changed at half-time, with Ben Alcock being moved into a central position and Joe Jary introduced into the middle of the pitch.

The changes certainly paid off as Tring were combative and on top and, playing excellent football despite the conditions.

Humphreys created a couple of chances for himself but spurned them and it looked as though a draw was on the cards as time was running out.

However, with 85 minutes on the clock the decisive moment arrived. Prolific striker Humphreys swivelled in the box and smashed a shot under the keeper to win the game for Corries.
