An entertaining Boxing Day clash between Hemel Town and Wealdstone saw the points shared as Jamie Slabber pounced late to rescue a 2-2 draw for the Tudors at Vauxhall Road.
After Hemel early dominence, Wealdstone took the lead on 34 minutes, somewhat against the run of play and with only their second attempt at goal, when Wes Parker forced the ball home from close range after The Tudors failed to clear the ball.
Tudors fans were left ruing several missed chances in the first period with Slabber, Oliver Hawkins and Zane Banton all missing decent opportunities.
The second half saw Wealdstone control the game, against the swirling wind, and they didn’t look in any danger until the 73rd minute when Parker went from hero to villian when he brought down Hawkins in the box.
It looked a clumsy challenge at best, but the referee Robert Mackay decided it was a penalty and somewhat harshly produced a red card to reduce Stones to 10 men.
Hawkins stepped up and drove the ball home, despite Sam Howes getting a hand to it.
With the home crowd sensing a change in fortunes it was the visitors who stunned the Tudors faithful when they piled forward straight from the kick-off to regain the lead when Jonny Wright headed home at the far post much to the delight of the away support.
Hemel became more and more desperate in their efforts to get something out of the game and, with time running out, it looked as though another home defeat was
on the cards.
However, the pressure was finally rewarded when Slabber surperbly flicked home a Graeme Montgomery shot that appeared to be going wide in the 88th
minute to give Hemel a share of the points. The home support at last getting something to cheer about at Vauxhall Road.
