Hammond signs for the Comrades as Vipond builds ahead of busy run-in

The Comrades will be in action every Tuesday and Saturday from now until the end of the season, and the acquisition of Hammond will provide Vipond with much-needed depth in his squad.

Berkhamsted’s trip to league leaders Kings Langley on Saturday was postponed by the match referee, despite the pitch passing an inspection earlier in the morning.

As with their Colney Heath trip, the players had all travelled to the match only to be denied a game – in this case because of a heavy shower at the wrong time. The match has been rearranged for Tuesday, March 31.

Coming up on Saturday is an eagerly-awaited local derby when Tring Athletic will become the sixth team to visit Broadwater since Xmas – with Berko having managed to play just one game away in that time.

The Comrades then travel to Colney Heath on Tuesday, for one of five away league games that have been rearranged for midweek after having fallen victim to the weather.

Berko are still waiting for other clubs to play their outstanding quarter-final ties before they will know their opposition for the semi-finals of two cups that will need fitting into a busy schedule.

Berko’s reserve side have only got five league games left to play, and they travel to Newport Pagnell Town on Saturday, boasting a nine-point lead at the top of the Suburban Premier.

A header on the half hour mark from Alfie Osborne put Berko in front against Hartley Wintney on Saturday, before a burst of two goals in two minutes near the end from Toomy Twelves and Pierce Kelly earned the side their latest 3-0 win.

The U18s went down 2-1 at Chesham United in midweek, with George Carberry netting.
