Five-star Leverstock Green run riot in big win over Biggleswade United

Leverstock earned another crucial three points on Saturday with an emphatic 5-0 win over Biggleswade United, including a hat-trick from Lewis Cruwys.

The scoreline was fully deserved as Leverstock dominated the game from start to finish and took their goals well.

The result was all the more remarkable given that Leverstock went into the game with several first team regulars missing through illness or injury, and had four players making their debuts, two in the starting line-up and two from the bench.

Levy took the lead in the sixth minute when Biggleswade keeper Adam Counihan was left rooted to the spot as Cruwys headed home a looping ball for 1-0.

Leverstock doubled their lead on 22 minutes when Curtis Donaldson floated a corner to the far post and Alex McCarthy came in to head home.

Leverstock came close to adding a third goal in the 33rd minute when Donaldson’s Rabona cross found Cruwys at the far post, but his header hit the post.

Levy picked up where they left off in the second half, and on 51 minutes a cross from Dan Hartley allowed McCarthy to force the ball home for the third goal.

Green extended their lead further eight minutes later as Ryan Laville played the ball out wide to Donaldson, who crossed to the far post where Cruwys had an unchallenged header to put his side 4-0 up.

The same players combined again for the fifth Leverstock goal on 65 minutes. Donaldson crossed to the far post, where Laville laid it back for Cruwys to slot home neatly into the corner of the net to complete his hat-trick.

That was it for the scoring, although Green keeper Liam Jahn had to produce a couple of good saves late in the game to preserve his clean sheet, having had little to do up to that point thanks to his defence closing the opposition down so well.

Levy manager Paul Hunt was very pleased with the performance, praising his team’s work rate and the fact that they have taken on board everything the management team has been impressing on them.

His side have now reached the psychologically important milestone of 30 points, but Hunt says they have got to keep going, especially on Tuesday night when they have another crucial six-pointer away to Colney Heath.
