Derby delight for Berkhamsted in the Herts Senior Cup quarter-finals

Berkhamsted booked their place in the semi-finals of the Herts Senior Cup with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Dacorum rivals Leverstock Green.

The Comrades got the job done with goals from Ashley Morrissey, Adiel Mannion, Jordon Frederick and Ryan Laville to set up a clash wth either Hemel Hempstead Town or Watford in the semis.

Having won their previous three league games, Leverstock should have gone into Tuesday night’s clash with confidence, but for the third time this season they ended up getting well beaten by their neighbours.

Six changes were made to the Green line-up from Saturday’s win at Wembley as the management team sought to rotate their squad.

However, it showed as the performance was somewhat disjointed and lacked the energy and intensity from the previous games.

It didn’t help that Leverstock lost the livewire Billy Smith to injury inside the opening 10 minutes.

Leverstock competed early on, and might have taken the lead in the 20th minute when Callum Wright chipped the ball through to Louis Bircham, but his effort was deflected wide.

Berko had also missed some good chances before they opened the scoring in the 24th minute when Mannion got to the bye-line and pulled the ball back for Morrissey to score from close range.

A second Berko goal in the 40th minute made it an uphill struggle for the Leverstock side, as Mannion dispossessed Alex Nolan on the edge of the box before shooting home from an angle.

There was further injury woe for Leverstock as Nathan Jellow hobbled off in the closing minute of the half and was replaced at half-time.

Berko added a third goal in the 57th minute when Frederick was put through. Kieran Jimmy saved his first shot, but Frederick netted from the rebound.

The rest of the match was something of a damp squib after that. Leverstock were denied even a consolation goal when a shot from Wright was cleared off the line, and Laville added the fourth goal from a somewhat harsh penalty in the 83rd minute.
