It is now one defeat in eight and five clean sheets in six for Colin Phillips and Kerry Gordon’s men as they begin to push back up the table.

In the first half, Corries were poor and their passing was sloppy. However, they defended well and restricted Stony to a couple of chances, and on 40 minutes they luckily went in front.

A Paul Jeffery corner was met by Andy Wheeler-King who headed home, and two minutes later there was nearly a replica but Wheeler-King headed over from six yards.

The second half showed a marked improvement from Corries; passes were now finding their man and Tring were causing problems.

Wilkinson robbed the keeper and Humphreys drilled just over the bar, before the menacing Humphreys had a shot well saved.

But on 70 minutes it was 2-0 as Dan Smethers got on the end of a free-kick and diverted the ball past the keeper.

With Matt Myatt and Will Salmon dominant in midfield and Burfoot elegant at centre-half, Tring ground out win with some comfort in the end.

Elsewhere, the Corries reserves went down 1-0 in the reverse fixture at Stony.
