Comrades go three points clear as Oxhey Jets are downed

Berkhamsted stretched their lead at the top of the SSML Premier Division table to three points by completing the double over Oxhey Jets on Tuesday night.

Again Mick Vipond rang the changes with Carl Tasker available to return in goal, but he lost James Baldry to work commitments, which meant a recall for Jamie Gavin at centre-half. Tthere were also recalls for Ashley Morrissey and Max Farrelly.

Morrissey responded by grabbing the first goal with a 30 -ard daisy cutter that was perfectly placed in the bottom corner beyond the diving Will Baker.

Jets seemed to be taking it in turns to commit fouls but, after picking up a couple of yellow cards in the first half, they had to be more careful after the interval.

Full-backs Courtney Massey and Kyle Lincoln got forward well for Berko, but they were foiled by Baker as was James Towell.

Two more goals before the hour mark from Josh Chamberlain sealed the points.

Towell and Morrissey flicks set him up for the first which he lashed home with Jets hoping in vain for offside.

Neat work by BJ Christie set up Chamberlain from the left of the box to shoot the third goal.

An inviting cross from Towell was nodded wide by Christie but he got on the scoresheet with a shot after neat build-up play involving Morrissey and Chamberlain.

Morrissey kept surging forward and Baker saved from Christie as Berko used three subs and looked to keep scoring. Jets’ best effort was a 1-2 by ex-Comrade Ashley Fongho that ended with a fierce shot over the bar.

On Saturday Berko are at home to London Tigers. It is an international weekend so the Comrades are hoping for a good crowd attracted by adult half price admission at £3 with any professional club season ticket.

Baldry should be available to return for Berko.
