Captain marvel Parkes rescues a point as Hemel draw with Hayes & Yeading

It was another afternoon of frustration for the Tudors fans as their team had to settle for a draw despite having most of the possession and chances.

Hemel Skipper Jordan Parkes brought the best out of Calum Kitscha in the Hayes & Yeading goal – the keeper tipping over the Tudors skipper’s early effort.

James Simmonds combined well with James Potton and saw his shot blocked, before Pat Cox scored completely against the run of play with the visitors’ first shot of the game when he flicked in a corner at the near post after 32 minutes.

Parkes fizzed a ball across the face of the goal before Ollie Hawkins met a late corner for Hemel, but his header went wide of the post to further frustrate the home side.

The second half was all Hemel, with Kitscha keeping his side in the game with saves from Potton and Simmonds.

New loan signing Jamel Lowe made an impressive start when he came on for Hemel, taking on defenders at pace and using the ball well.

With Hayes & Yeading now getting men behind the ball, most of the chances were falling to Hemel; Parkes had a shot blocked with ball rebounding off him and flying just wide, and Hawkins missed the target with a header at the far post.

Ben Mackey then just failed to connect with a Parkes cross by inches as chances continued to come and go for the Tudors.

Just when Hemel fans were starting to think it was going to be one of those games, they were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the box and man of the match Parkes stepped up to drive the ball home at the near post to give his side a deserved equaliser.

Mackey had a late goal denied by an offside flag and the Tudors had to settle for a point.

The Vauxhall Road faithful, which was again approaching 600, appreciated their team’s efforts and applauded the team off at half-time and the end as the improvement of their side continues.
