In an exiting encounter, Flaunden opened the scoring early on, only for Boars to score three quick goals of their own to take a 3-1 lead.

Flaunden were not to be outdone and scored three goals of their own to lead 4-3 until the last minutes of the match, when Boars grabbed a late equaliser.

With no extra-time in this match, it was straight to a penalty shoot-out, where first four spot kicks were all saved by the respective keepers.

But the kicks then went Boars’ way and they ran out winners by three penalties to two.

The Berkhamsted League representatives thanked Hemel Hempstead Town FC, especially Dave Boggins and Dave Lloyd, for their hospitality and their willingness to have the match staged at Vauxhall Road.

Meanwhile, there was better news for Flaunden off the pitch as Paul Fidler ws announced as the new chairman of the club.

Speaking about Fidler’s appointment, a club spokesman said: “No one deserves this more after all the hard work he has put in over the years.

“ Securing the extra sponsorship with Underwoods this season is just the start of what he can do.

“He will take up this position as well as continuing in his role as part of the management team.”

Shaun Gatehouse will now become honorary life president of the club and he was thanked for all his efforts over the years.
