Armitt salvo sinks Ampthill as Oxhey Jets hit five

A first half hat-trick from Lee Armitt sent Ampthill Town to their fourth league defeat of the season as they crashed 5-0 at Oxhey Jets on Saturday in the SSML Premier Division.

Town began well enough but Town conceded their third penalty in four games when a home forward was pushed and Armitt scored his first goal of the game after 11 minutes.

Poor marking then allowed Armitt in for his second and he completed his hat trick inside the first 35 minutes of the hame.

Eoin Casey added the fourth before the break to compound a miserable first half for Town, although they did have some good scoring chances themselves.

An unmarked header from Adam Lowton gave Oxhey their fifth late in the game, although Town had rallied well after the break with more shape to their side.

Derwayne Stupple’s side battled well in the second half but gave themselves too much to do after Armitt’s first half salvo.

The crushing defeat leaves Town at the bottom of the table and they host Tring Athletic on Saturday. They need to start to pick up points and make home advantage count.

Next Tuesday, they begin the defence of their Premier Division Cup when they host Leverstock Green in a first round tie.
