Whitlock, 21, won Commonwealth titles in both events this summer, but fell during his floor routine and finished outside the top-eight qualification spots.

Britain’s Dan Purvis and Nile Wilson both scored higher than Whitlock in the all-around standings.

A consolation for Whitlock, however, is that the Great Britain men have comfortably qualified for the team final, placing fourth after the two-day qualification in Nanning.

The team of Olympians Whitlock, Dan Keatings, Purvis, Kristian Thomas, and World Championship debutantes Wilson and Courtney Tulloch scored a total of 357.193 points to trail Japan, China and the USA in the standings.
