Dacorum bowls round-up: Including Hemel Hempstead finishing with a flourish

The men beat arch rivals Potten End 80-68 as the top rink of Ged Pask, Alan Thornley, Alex Turnbull and Gary Eagles romped to a 26-7 victory.

Hemel’s mixed rinks beat Berkhamsted 97-49, with top rink going to Malc Smith, Derek Simpson, Val Nash and Roger Wakefield who won 28-8

In the final game of the campaign at Chesham, Hemel recorded a resounding 130-98 win, thanks largely to the top rink of Ken Lowe, Alex Turnbull, Lena Emmins and Geoff Ingleby who emerged as 26-11 victors.

On the final day of the outdoor season, Potten End BC were proud to present cheques to the value of £925 to the club charity for the year – Woodfield School in Leverstock Green.

As winners of the Dacorum Shield, the club received £500 from event sponsors SWR Ltd, and £50 from the Dacorum Sports network, while members of the club raised a further £375 from events through the summer.

In the final two fixtures of the season, the men’s match at Hemel Hempstead was curtailed by heavy rain with the home side leading by 80 shots to 68. Top rink was Alan Clements, Brian Hillyer, Alan Phee and Tom Jordan.

The ladies enjoyed better fortunes with a fine win over Dunstable by 67 shots to 34 – mainly due to the efforts of the top rink of Doreen Pike, Pam Smith and Linda Burfot.

Kitcheners entertained Chalfont St Giles in a five-rink mixed triples match and won 101-61 – with highest rink going to John Colman, Enid Rance and Ian Davis.

On Saturday the club travelled to Chess Vale for a five-rink mixed match and lost 111-84, despite the efforts of top rink quartet Enid Rance, Dave Shirley, Sue Halsey and Steve Delderfield.

The following day, 32 club members donned their finest fancy dress costumes to play in the Ladies v Men and Ladies Gala.

The men won the match, while the gala was won by Steve Lea, ahead of runners-up Yvonne Coe and Steve Delderfield.
