Mark Pawlett, who coaches at Sanshin Taekwondo, represented the English team and won a bronze in the team category, silver for pairs and bronze for individuals.

Mark has been involved in Taekwondo since the age of 11 when he started competing in sparring (Kyorugi).

However, in the last couple of years, Mark has become more interested in the more technical side of Taekwondo – in particular Poomsae.

Poomsae competitions are judged on the basis of accuracy, presentation, power and Ki, or martial art spirit.

And his hard work and dedication has certainly paid off, with Mark helping England Poomsae to the overall trophy for the most medals won at the Commonwealths.

“It was a fantastic experience to represent England in the Commonwealth Championships,” said Mark.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the Taekwondo instructors that I have worked with, especially to my current coach Master Gemma Biescas. And a huge thanks to all the coaches from the British team.”

Mark’s club in Tring is registered with British Taekwondo – the only organisation in Britain that gives access to world-class events such as the Olympics. To find out more, please contact Mark at [email protected] or on 07932 648491.
