Charity: Pedal plea to make big event a success

National learning disability charity Hft s calling all cyclists to get on their bikes and take part in its 19th annual Ugley Bike Ride on Sunday, September 4, from its centre at Ugley, near Bishop’s Stortford in Herts.

All money raised in sponsorship from the bike ride will go towards funding improvements at Hft’s nursery which provides horticultural training for people with learning disabilities.

Everyone is welcome to come along and join in the fun, from families to experienced cyclists, and refreshments will be provided en route for everyone who takes part.

Traditionally, the annual bike ride took place in October but the date was moved forward to September two years ago, to take advantage of the warmer weather.

All cyclists taking part will set off between 9.30am and 10.30am from the Bradbury Resource Centre, Pound Lane in Ugley. There’s a choice of riding between 10 and 60 miles on two circular routes through beautiful country lanes.

The 10 mile route is a pleasant ride for all members of the family, while more experienced cyclists may prefer to complete up to three laps in the 20 mile route.

The entry fee is £10 if booked in advance or £20 on the day, which covers the provision of Red Cross and Raynet cover, cycle repairs, and refreshments en route and at the finish. Children under 16 are FREE but must be accompanied by an adult.

“We need your sponsorship as much as your pedalling power to make this event a massive fundraising success”, says Hilary Colbert, Hft fund development manager.

“Our bike ride is the perfect family day out as it is non-competitive and relaxed. So please do come along and join in the fun

“All monies raised will go towards the renovation of our nursery at Ugley, upgrading the centre’s facilities and accessibility which will give more people with learning disabilities the opportunity to experience horticultural training.”

Anyone interested in taking part should contact Julie Thompson on 01209 210736 or Hilary Colbert on 01525 376564 or email [email protected] for an information pack and entry details.
