Camelot youngsters bounce back to form with victory over Barnet

The Camelot U11s bounced back from a disappointing showing in the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup at Saracens last week to record a close victory away at Barnet on Sunday.

After a stern talking to by the coaches the previous week, the players responded magnificently as a squad made up of two teams participated in five 9-a-side matches.

The clubs were fairly evenly matched, with Camelot starting slowly, but by the end of the morning’s play they had won three of the five matches.

This included an emphatic 8-1 win, and a 6-2 victory in the final match after the teams had won two games apiece. The final try count was 19 for Camelot and 14 for Barnet.

Playing on the Premiership team’s 4G pitch, the Camelot boys won each of their qualifying games to top their table with victories against Sevenoaks, Saracens Amateurs, Peterborough and Barnet; 4-1, 4-3, 6-1 and 5-0.

Making hard work of their second game saw them dig deep to come back from 2-0 down to take the win. Of particular note was their strength in the driving mauls, claiming several tries for their efforts.

Going top of their table saw them cruise through to the knock-out stage, due to be held in the spring, when they will look to bring home the Saracens Cup for the third season running.
