Berkhamsted set to open their doors for fun-filled open day

The open day will run from 11am until 3pm on Sunday, and activities will include free tennis, squash, a bouncy castle, a barbecue, and a bar.

The club’s ladies’ tennis team will also be in action in an NCL match versus St Albans, with the game taking place from midday.

The Berkhamsted women’s NCL team have had a perfect start to the season by winning every rubber so far in their two matches to top the league.

The team is made up of Maddie Brooks, Shanice Marshall, Anna Popescu, Larissa Gungah, Natalia Ilkow, Lizzie Johnson and Sophia Mezzone, and this the first year that the club has entered the NCL in the women’s division.

“I have been very keen for a number of years to enter a Berkhamsted women’s team in the NCL,” said BETA director Tyrell Diaz Stevens. “It will be great for the young girls coming through the academy to play in tough singles and doubles team matches each season.”

Sunday’s match could be a league deciding one as St Albans have only dropped three sets so far.

Another BETA star at the club is Joel Pierleoni who had a great Easter period, competing in Sutton and Nottingham at U12 National events as well as an U14 Tennis Europe competition in Nottingham.

Tennis Europe events are open to all players in that age group from any country in the world, so the best players from European countries and sometimes further afield travel to compete in these tournaments.

Joel claimed three titles in singles and doubles to qualify, and made the quarter-finals of his first Tennis Europe event at U14 level. Along the way he beat highly ranked national and international players, and finished the period ranked number 3 in the country for U12 boys and number 400 in Europe for U14 boys.

This run of results has given Joel a great chance of being selected for the GB team in a 6 nations event in late June. Next up will be various Aegon team matches representing Berkhamsted in U12 and U14 Premier Teams and then Tennis Europe events in Barcelona and Halton in June.

Berkhamsted are also proud to announce that 13-year-old Emily Ineson was recently selected to play for Hertfordshire County in the U14 Girls 2015 County Cup.

Emily has been a part of BETA Tennis since 2012 and a member of the Berkhamsted Tennis Club since she was seven years old.

“This is fantastic news for Emily. She has worked extremely hard over the last few years and she deserves this reward,” said Tyrell. Emily travelled to Sheffield with the Herts team to compete in the competition against Middlesex, Staffordshire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
