Berkhamsted first XI remain unbeaten after victory at Luton

Inspirational captain Pete Allam bagged a brace for high-flying Berko, with James Barron making sure of the win after Luton had taken a surprise lead.

Elsewhere, the men’s fourth XI had an outstanding game against Shefford and Sandy III.

They won 8-0 with goals scored by Paul Dubenski, Dave Gardener, Will Hanwell, Andy Prentice, Jack Thie, Ollie Webb and two for James Godsell.

The men’s fifths, however, lost narrowly to Welywn Garden City. Playing in torrential rain, they went down 3-1, with youngster Will Newton being voted man of the match and Jeremy Fisher getting the consolation goal for Berko.

The men’s third team also had a disappointing day at the office as they lost very uncharacteristically against Letchworth.

The club’s stand-out team so far this season have stumbled recently against the other top teams in the league, but they have an easier set of games leading up to Christmas.

The men’s seconds lost 1-0 against high flying and high scoring Southgate Adelaide I.

Berko’s failure to score was a surprise, but keeping the opposition to just the one goal was an outstanding performance by the defence.

Elsewhere, the ladies’ second XI now share the top spot in their league as they continued their unbeaten start to the season with an excellent 4-1 win away at Blueharts.

The ladies’ firsts, meanwhile, were unfortunate not to get more out of their game against Cheshunt.

Ellie Mcdonald scored Berko’s goal and was joint player of the match, but the 1-1 draw does not reflect the balance of play.

Wrapping up the weekend fixtures for the club, the ladies’ third team had a tough game against a strong Saffron Walden side.

They lost 4-0 to their free-flowing opponents, with goalkeeper Teresa Ashby named the player of the match.
