On opening day customers were queuing up to taste these fish and chips – and they weren’t disappointed!

With over 20 years’ experience in hospitality and the food and drink industry the new owners of Marios Fish and Chips in The Queen’s Square, Hemel Hempstead, know what they’re doing.

Take premium fresh fish, top quality rapeseed oil, a quality batter, plenty of trial and error to perfect the optimum cooking temperature and time and you have the perfect combination for the perfect fish and chips.

Owner Ali Eroglu lives in the town and took the opportunity to open up this new takeaway after the existing long-established fish and chip shop closed down.

It was an institution with generations of families, and he knew the locals would miss it. So, after a complete renovation of the premises, hiring quality chefs and local staff to take orders and serve, Marios fired up the friers just over a month ago and hasn’t looked back.

“It’s been amazing,” said Ali. “From day one we’ve had queues out of the door.

We think we’ve got the recipe just right – the fish is flaky and melts in the mouth and the batter is crispy. Using premium fish and top quality rapeseed oil gives the best, cleanest, freshest taste.

He said: “We have put a lot of hard work into it and when we get great feedback from people it makes it all worthwhile. We have completely renovated the place and tiled it all. The premises are fresh and clean, we offer fantastic customer service and good food – it’s simple but it works!”

As well as cod, haddock, rock and plaice  there is a wide range of other foods from battered sausage and savoloys to pies, from calamari and whitebait to king prawns. And of course chips, drinks, pickles, and mushy peas. And in a nod to his background in Scotland, there’s even fried Mars Bars on the menu.

Ali Eroglu first worked in a fish and chip takeaway 16 years ago in Scotland – where the fish supper is a staple treat as much as here in England. He tested various other fish and chip shops’ food and tried and tested recipes before finding what he believes is the perfect combination – and the proof is in the eating!
