This year's Download Festival may have been cancelled, but 2021's edition of the heavy rock festival is ploughing ahead, and has just released its first line-up details.

Download Festival’s Andy Copping said: “2020 has been a tough year for us all, and we were beyond gutted not to be able to experience Download Festival with you all.

"Download 2021 is going to be something special and go down in the history books as when the Download family reunited.

"We’re going to be working hard behind the scenes to make Download 2021 an unforgettable experience and a celebration of the festival we all love.”

Here's everything you need to know:

When is Download 2021?

The three-day rock festival takes place from 4 to 6 June 2021, at Donington Park in Leicestershire.

Who is headlining?

Legendary glam-rockers KISS will headline the Friday night in a UK exclusive.

With more than 100 million albums sold worldwide in their 45-year career, 2020 was due to be their final ever Download appearance.

Biffy Clyro replace Iron Maiden (who were due to headline this year) in the Saturday night headline slot, something the KiImarnock band described as "a highlight of the festival calendar."

“We can’t wait to return to headline Download in 2021!" they said. "Headlining in 2017 was special and now it’s time to celebrate again!"

Like KISS, System Of A Down will also be making a UK exclusive appearance with the Download crowd, headlining on the Sunday.

Bassist Shavo Odadjian said: “We’re disappointed we weren’t able to make it over this year, but we’re looking forward to next. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

"Mostly, we all just want to make sure everyone is provided with a safe and secure environment, so we were prepared to wait as long as we needed to."

Who else is on the bill?

The majority of 2021's bill is simply carried over from plans for this year's festival, but there are a number of new additions to the line-up.

These include Steel Panther, Creeper, punk legends Rise Against, internet sensation Poppy, and many more.

Other newcomers to the previously announced 70-act bill include A Day To Remember, Mastodon, Control The Storm, Gender Roles, Jamie Lenman, Myles Kennedy & Company, and The Pretty Reckless.

Fans will also have a chance to catch multi-platinum, Grammy Award winning alternative rockers Deftones, two-time Grammy Award winners KoRn, The Darkness, LA punk rockers The Distillers, and Hollywood favourites Black Veil Brides.

They'll be joined by metalcore heroes Killswitch Engage, Brazilian heavy metallers Sepultura, Welsh icons Funeral For A Friend (in their last ever festival appearance), and many more.

How do I get tickets?

Tickets for the festival will be made available from Friday 7 August 9am.

They will be available through the Download Festival website.
