Online reactions

The announcement of the new additions to the emoji dictionary have been mixed, with some people excited to see more accurate reflections of themselves represented in emoji form - and others flabbergasted by some of the new additions.

One Twitter user wrote, “Great to see this, a small but much needed step into further Trans inclusivity. Representation matters! We look forward to seeing these new unicode emojis rolled out.”

Another tweeted, “Getting to see yourself and your pride in technology you use is validation that you are being heard and that your voice matters. Some top callouts: man in veil, trans flag and Mx Clause. Which are you most excited for??”

Pointing out some of the more obscure emojis included in the list, one user wrote, “The log and rock emojis are my new jam.”

“I am looking forward to the new cockroach & bell pepper emojis. Those are the only things I talk about,” wrote another on the social media platform.

An exasperated user tweeted, “Let’s take a look at the hotly-anticipated new emojis for 2020 and GOD NO ACCORDIONS”
