WVRS launch a manhunt for volunteers

More than three million men say they plan to start volunteering this year, and older people’s charity WRVS is launching a manhunt, calling for men to join its ranks in a bid to shed its ‘for women only’ reputation.

Although launched as a women-only organisation in 1938, WRVS now supports older people and the charity wants more men to volunteer. Less than a fifth of its 40,000 cohort are men.

More male volunteers are particularly needed to tackle the loneliness experienced by many older men which can have a detrimental effect on their health and wellbeing.

The charity is now urging the men planning to volunteer this year to consider WRVS and, to persuade them to sign up, is hosting a men only Q&A on twitter on Monday, February 18 between 12 noon and 2pm. Men interested are invited to pose questions to a male volunteer using a dedicated hashtag #manhunt.
