Women in Engineering opportunity for pupils
Held at the college’s Kings Langley campus, the event marking Women in Engineering Day focused around STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects and industries.
The day also saw the official opening of the college’s new Innovation Lab, with visitors from several engineering companies attending, including Kings Langley-based RES, BT, Meinhardt, Airbus, Imagination and VolkerWessels UK.

Students were invited to take part in six specialist activities – CAD / 3D printing, electronics, robotics, Formula 1 engineering, renewables/green technology and welding – with help and advice from the technology companies.
Chairman of Three Rivers District Council, Andrew Scarth, and his wife Alison attended to show their support.
Andrew said: “We fully support this initiative by West Herts College to encourage many more girls to look at engineering as an option available to them for their future career development. We both agreed that, if we had had this option as students, we certainly would have looked at it for a future career.”
College principal Gill Worgan and Sandie Taylor from RES cut the ribbon to open the new lab. And Meinhardt presented director of curriculum, John McMahon, with a cheque for £1,000 towards the college’s new civil engineering facilities.
