The 29-year-old victim is still in hospital in a serious condition after suffering a deep laceration when he was stabbed from behind.

He managed to flag down a motorist who took him to the Hemel Urgent Care Centre. He was taken by ambulance to Watford Hospital for further treatment.

Detective Sergeant Paul Perkins, who is investigating, said: “The victim suffered a potentially life-threatening injury to his leg but, thanks to the help of the passing motorist, the man quickly received medical attention and is now in a stable condition.

“I’d also like to take this opportunity to reassure the community that this sort of attack is unusual in Hemel Hempstead and we are working hard to identify the offender.”
