Well-wishers rally for Jordan: Teen paperboy suffers broken leg after road accident

Jordan Dibble, 14, of Riverside Gardens in Berkhamsted, was cycling at around 6.50am on his Monday morning round when the collision, involving a silver Mini, took place.

He was rushed to Watford General Hospital where it was revealed he had broken both his tibia and fibula bones in his left leg and chipped a part of his knee.

His distraught mum Natalie told the Gazette she feared his injuries would be much worse.

She said: “I got a knock on the door from the shopkeeper he does his paper round for, and he said, ‘Jordan has been in accident’. I was absolutely terrified, the whole family was.

“He has injured his leg and he will take a while to recover. We were concerned he could have had an internal injury, but luckily he hasn’t and we are so grateful.”

Natalie said she feared the worst following a serious road accident involving her niece just 18 months ago, but thankfully it is hoped Jordan will be allowed to go home tomorrow (Wednesday).

The brave teen has also had to have part of his ear glued back together, has suffered cuts and bruises and will need to undergo physiotherapy, but he is expected to make a full recovery.

The Berkhamsted community has rallied behind the lad with well wishes and messages posted on social media. 
High Street business B Smart Dry Cleaners is among those who will be collecting donations in aid of Jordan, with the hope of buying him a new bike when he is well enough.

Owner Gareth Haywood said: “Berkhamsted always gets behind things when something like this happens – we all seem to pull together. If we can get Jordan a jump back up the ladder when he’s fit and well again, that’s all good.”

Natalie added: “We are very, very humbled. It’s lovely the support we have had, messages and things from people we don’t even know. It really lifted our spirits and it is nice to know Jordan has a lot of support and people are thinking about him.”

Thankfully Jordan’s thumbs weren’t injured as, according to his mum, the Year 9 pupil at Ashlyns School has been spending his time in hospital taking lots of selfies to update his friends.

The town’s High Street was closed between Queens Road and Stag Lane for three hours following the incident on Monday, as police investigated the collision.
