Vehicle crime spree spikes in town

Eight incidents – including thefts and criminal damage – have been reported between Christmas Eve and Monday, January 11, leading the local neighbourhood police team to send out an Online Watch Link email warning people to be vigilant.

Patrols have also been increased in the town as a result.

The first incident happened some time between Christmas Eve and Monday, January 4 where an offender gained entry to a white Nissan Note parked on Brook Street by unknown means.

They went through the glove box but did not take anything.

Between Tuesday, January 5 and Thursday, January 7, an offender slashed the roof of a black convertible Audi A4 on Park Street.

At around 2am on Thursday, January 7, an offender smashed a window of a green Volvo V70 Estate parked on the corner of New Road and Morefields.

At around 7.50pm on Saturday, January 9, offenders smashed a window of a grey Volvo XC7 in Grove Park and stole power tools.

Between 6pm on Saturday, January 9 and 8.25am on Sunday, January 10 an offender smashed the rear window of a blue Vauxhall Astra Estate parked in Eight Acres and stole power tools and sports gear.

Between 5.15pm on Saturday, January 9 and 11.55am on Sunday, January 10 an offender smashed a window of a red Renault Kadjar parked in Elizabeth Drive, stealing a laptop bag and other items.

Between 4.30pm on Sunday, January 10 and 7am on Monday, January 11, an offender gained entry to a vehicle parked in Fields End by unknown means, but did not take anything but taken nothing.

Between 1pm on Sunday, January 10 and 8am on Monday, January 11 an offender gained entry to a vehicle parked in Mulberry Close by unknown means but after an untidy search, did not take anything.
