UPDATE: Homes evacuated over unexploded bomb in garage

More than 30 residents in Aldbury were evacuated from their homes this morning (Monday, April 4) due to reports of an unexploded bomb.

Police were called to an address in Stoneycroft at 8am to a report of a suspected unexploded shell.

The device was found by a local resident nearby and brought back to their garage.

An 100m cordon was set up around the location and homes within that area have been evacuated at the advice of Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD).

Around 30 residents were taken to the village hall before an EOD team arrived shortly after 10am.

The device was moved to a nearby field by the EOD team and detonated safely.

The cordon has now been lifted and residents are able to return to their homes.
