Tree is carved into nature play area that links back to town’s Rothschild heritage

Linking to Tring Park’s Rothschild heritage the trunk of the fallen Ash tree has been carved into a zebra head and tortoise shells by chainsaw carver Will Lee.

There’s also a cassoway - a type of flightless bird that Walter Rothschild kept at Tring Park - and there’s reference to the infamous glis glis rodent that was released into the wild by the eccentric museum founder and now wreaks havoc taking residence in people’s homes.

Karen Trickey from the Woodland Trust, which manages the park, said: “We wanted to tie in Walter Rothschild’s quirky nature and create some of the live animals he used to keep as well as things you might find in the park today.”
