Rail bosses are warning passengers to be prepared for service changes over the bank holiday weekend.

London Midland services will be affected by engineering works on the West Coast Main Line between Saturday, May 2 and Monday, May 4.

Passengers in Tring and Hemel Hempstead will be affected by changes to route between Crewe and London Euston.

On Saturday and Sunday these services will take a diversionary route, meaning trains will not call at Stafford or Stone. Journeys will also take much longer than normal.

Several other routes, not calling at Hemel or Tring, will be provided by bus replacement services.

Steven Fisher, London Midland’s head of regional services, said: “The works in May will affect a number of routes across our network, so I’d urge passengers to check before they travel.

“There isn’t an ideal time for improvement works to take place, but we have worked closely with Network Rail and other affected train operators to ensure that passengers are kept up to date and that disruption is kept to a minimum.

“When the works are complete in 2016, journeys to the North West will be faster and more reliable.

“I’d like to thank our passengers in advance for their patience and cooperation, while these essential works take place.”
