Traditionally English restaurant to relocate to Berkhamsted from Covent Garden

Porters, which boasts world renowned steak and kidney pudding and fisherman’s pie, is due to open in the High Street during February next year.

The restaurant firm - Exciting Biting Ltd - will also close its City centre bar and grill in the new year in preparation for the big move.

Director Neil Wornham said Berkhamsted was chosen for the restaurant destination after looking at around 50 other places.

He said: “It is lovely. We were looking for a new permanent home for Porters and I looked at about 50 opportunities and Berkhamsted was head and shoulders above others.

“I thought that we would fit in quite nicely. It is a very exciting opportunity.”

He said he could not reveal specific details about the new restaurant but said it would merge the qualities of the London English restaurant and the bar and grill eatery.

A statement on the company’s website says: “Our new Porters will be slick, contemporary and very shiny in places, somewhere that we will be very proud of and we will be concentrating all our efforts and working very hard to ensure that our clients are always welcome, cared for and that their custom is appreciated and never taken for granted.”

The restaurant will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner along with afternoon tea. Its website says: “Dinner from about 5pm every day with properly mixed cocktails using premium spirits, better than decent wines by the glass with friendly, warm, we really do care service.”

Vacancies for the position of head chef and pastry chef are currently being advertised.

Dacorum Borough Council has granted an alcohol and late night refreshments licence for the premises at Unit 3, 300 High Street.
