Town organisation Hope for Children is launching the ‘#UNselfie’ next Tuesday as part of its #GivingTuesday social media campaign dedicated to charitable giving.

Taking place after the peak High Street sales expected on Black Friday and the online shopping boom on Cyber Monday, #GivngTuesday is a day devoted to charitable giving.

The charity’s founder Bob Parsons from Hemel Hempstead is encouraging Twitter users to upload ‘selfies’ to social media using the hash-tag #GivingTuesday to help spread awareness of their ongoing charity work across the world.

Bob, from Warners End, started the charity in 1994 and since then has provided on the ground help to children and families torn apart by natural disasters or bitter civil wars in nine countries across Asia, Africa and Europe.

Ed Fletcher Hope’s Business Development Manager said that for a small organisation with big ambitions to help thousands of vulnerable children in the next few years, #GivingTuesday is the opportunity they need.

He said: “It’s not every day a charity founded on £5,000 gets asked to become a part of an international campaign.

“We would love for the local community here in Dacorum to continue their support and help give children hope by uploading their very own #UNselfie to social media.”
