The cheque was collected on behalf of the charity by John Fisher, aged 72, one of DEMAND’s clients and president of The Monday Club, a social club for adults with learning disabilities in Abbots Langley.

The presentation evening was hosted by Breakspeare School, which has benefitted from DEMAND’s work since 1994, when the charity’s engineers created motorised computer tables to help students in wheelchairs access the computers.

DEMAND’s fundraising manager, Denise Gillies, said: “We are thankful to again receive support from the Abbots Langley Tough Ten.

“The team do incredible work for the community and we are glad to be able to put their donations to good use helping local people.

“Our engineers are currently working to find a solution for Mr Fisher, who kindly accepted the donation on behalf of DEMAND, that will enable him to access his garden despite his limited mobility.”

DEMAND is providing Mr Fisher, who has osteoporosis, with a bespoke handrail, costing about £200.

Last year, DEMAND helped about a dozen people in Abbots Langley to live life their way thanks to the generosity of Tough Ten and many local individuals and businesses.

The charity has also recently received a £2,000 grant from Watford Borough Council’s Small Grant Fund, which supports projects, community initiatives or the purchase of a piece of equipment for the benefit of local people.

The grant will contribute to a range of projects to be completed over the next six months in Watford, to help local people with a variety of disabilities.
