Three rugby break-ins all thought to be connected

Police are linking three break-ins at rugby clubs which all took place this week.

The first incident saw thieves target Harpenden Rugby Club in Redbourn Lane, Harpenden,between 5pm on Monday (March 7) and 4.30pm on Tuesday (March 8).

Offenders broke in by smashing a glass door with a gas canister before removing a freestanding safe from inside.

Police were then called to Hemel Hempstead Rugby Club, Chaulden Lane, at around 2am on Wednesday (March 9) after reports that the alarm was going off.

Offenders had forced the main front door into the club and carried out a search, before escaping with cash from the tills.

Damage was caused to the CCTV system, external lighting, the alarm system external and internal doors.

Later that morning members of Tring Rugby Club in Cow Lane discovered that their club had been broken into between 10pm on Tuesday and 8.20am on Wednesday.

This time the offenders broke in by smashing the glass pane of an external door with a metal beer keg. Once inside they carried out a search before emptying cash from three charity tins that were on the bar.

Damage was caused to the alarm system, along with external and internal doors.
